Comrade Francis Bunu summons 4 Dockworkers contestants for a breakfast meeting
Newly elected President General, Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) , Comrade Francis Bunu has read the riot act to contestants vying for the post of President from the Dockworkers Branch to desist from any form of campaign at the quayside and terminals across the seaports nationwide.
City People gathered that four districts Chairmen, namely – Comrade Wole Adetumi, Sharafadeen Oguntoyibo, Bolaji Agboola and a certain Joseph Odemene are allegedly jostling for the position of Dockworkers Branch President.
Bunu also summoned all contestants from the Dockworkers Branch for a breakfast meeting on Saturday at an undisclosed hotel in Lagos.
Speaking at his inaugural speech held on Friday at the national secretariat, the newly President General of MWUN, called on members from the four branches to be careful ahead of the forthcoming branches, districts and units elections, adding that the national executives will not tolerate any form of back biting that will tarnish the image of the union.
According to him, the union’s interest is paramount against any member or groups, stressing that contestants should abide to the rules of engagement.
He warned that nobody under the guise of contesting for any position can hold the union to ransom.
The P-G reiterated that the union will continue to respect initiatives from past leaders and that the MWUN will also ensure that they remain relevant to the system and the industry.
Bunu also maintained that the forthcoming branches and other elections will be devoid of crisis, assuring that there is no cause of alarm.
Similarly, the outgone President General MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, while thanking his executives and the newly elected officers, warned contestants to embrace peace.
Adeyanju reassured members of the union’s commitment that the forthcoming elections will be free and fair .
As part of the existing industrial peace in port operations, he promised to support Bunu’s riot act to contestants , saying that nobody will tarnish the image of the union in the coming elections.
He stated that there will be peace in the elections and nobody will suffer any form of injury or death during campaigns and electioneering process.
Adeyanju further commended the Secretariat staff for their sterling performance in the last eight years, saying that they are the best to ever work with .
