Micura Services Inks Strategic Stevedoring Contract With Ports & Cargo
Ports & Cargo Handling Services Limited (PCHS), the port management arm of SIFAX Group, has officially engaged Micura Services Limited to oversee stevedoring operations at its Tin Can Island Port terminal in Lagos.
According to a statement, this strategic partnership is part of PCHS’s ongoing restructuring initiative aimed at boosting operational efficiency and enhancing customer satisfaction.
John Jenkins, Managing Director of PCHS, explained that this move allows the company to concentrate on its core competency in port management, while delegating the safe and effective loading and unloading of cargo to Micura Services. He emphasized PCHS’s commitment to setting high standards in Nigeria’s port sector, noting that after more than 20 years in operation, the company is prepared to enter a new phase focused on stronger performance and becoming the preferred terminal for shipping lines, consignees, and agents.
Jenkins highlighted the importance of partnering with a professional stevedoring firm that possesses deep industry experience and local expertise, identifying Micura Services as the ideal collaborator to meet these goals.
Dr. Michael Ubogu, CEO of Micura Services Limited, expressed enthusiasm about the contract, describing it as a significant step forward in the company’s mission to deliver superior stevedoring services.
He praised Micura’s skilled and motivated workforce, assuring tailored solutions that align with PCHS’s expectations.
The restructuring and the appointment of Micura Services have also received commendation from Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN). Represented at the contract’s official launch by Vice President General , MWUN , Comrade Ibrahim Ohize Tajudeen, Abi praised PCHS for its transparency in managing dock workers’ concerns throughout the transition process.
