MWUN PRAISE NIGERIA'S FEAT ON IMO COUNCIL GAINS



The Maritme Workers' Union of Nigeria (MWUN) under the leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi has congratulated members of the Inter-Ministeral Committee in recognition of their contributions to Nigeria's successful election into category 'C' of the council of the International Maritme Organization (IMO) for the year 2026-2027 biennium.

The statement was signed and released by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, MWUN.
The numero uno of the Maritme Workers' Union of Nigeria, says the feat recorded so far for the country on November 28, 2025 in London, where Nigeria secured a seat on the IMO Council, was a significant impact and a milestone in the history of the country's Maritme space and diplomatic engagements, saying it was indeed remarkable and highly commendable and worthy of national celebration.

The Maritme Workers' Union of Nigeria PG did commend the wholesome efforts of the set committee, which were a critical factor in promoting Nigeria's Maritme reforms and its capability on the global stage; thereby, strengthening Nigeria's position within the international Maritme space.

However, while Comrade Bunu, PG of MWUN thanked Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy for the achieved feat, the effectiveness of the committee members cannot also be overemphasized; recalling that that visible feat reignited the country's commitment to the objectives of the IMO and its enhanced international Maritme cooperation; whilst also thanking the federal government of Nigeria for promoting the country's interest within the global Maritme governance.

PRESIDENT GENERAL MWUN, COMRADE BUNU HOSTS BOAN EXECUTIVES ON COURTESY VISIT

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), led by President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi has pledged the union’s strong commitment to synergize with barge operators as part of measures to boost seamless movement of cargoes across in Nigeria . Bunu who recently hosted executives from the Barge Operators Association of Nigeria (BOAN) at the MWUN Secretariat in Lagos made this known in a statement. According to a statement signed by Head of Media MWUN, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna over the weekend, the visit, led by BOAN Vice President Mr. Hyginus Chichebem Ndukwe, was both a congratulatory call on Comrade Bunu’s recent election victory .
